Generations of computer | History of Computer

Welcome Back Friends, how are you all, I hope that you all will be good.

So friends, today I have brought Anuj Dwivedi related posts from Generations of Computer for all of you.

First Generation Period 1940–1956

In the first generation of computers, Vacume Tubes were used to control and transmit electronic signals. A full-fledged computer was built in it, but the concept of the computer was first realized by them.

These tubes were larger in size and produced more heat and were prone to breakage-foot and more malfunction and the ability to calculate it was also very low and the computers of First Genration were more occupant.

This generation mainly used the Batch Processing Operating System. This generation used perforated cards, paper tape, magnetic tape input and output devices.

The main features of First Generation are as follows:

     1.Vacum tube Technique

     2. Machine language

     3. very expensive

     4.sheer size

    5. Power cosumption

Some computers of this generation ex: - ENIAC, IBM-701, IBM-650 etc.

Second Generation Period(1956-1963):-

Transistors were invented in Second Generation. During this time, transistors were used simultaneously in computers, which were more efficient and cheaper than valves.

Which were used in place of Vacume Tubes for computer construction. The transistor size is much smaller than that of Vacume Tubes. Which makes the computer smaller and their ability to calculate more and faster.

They were smaller in size than First Genration and were able to generate less heat and calculate more efficiency and faster speed. In this generation, high-level programming language Cobole was used, like Fortron.

The main features of Second Generation are as follows:

     1.Transistor uses
     2. Smaller size than First Generation Computer
     3. Generate less heat than First Generation Computer
     4. Lower power consumption than First Generation Computer
     5. Faster than First Generation Computer
     6. Very expensive
     7.Assmebly Language

Some computers of this generation ex: -IBM 1620, IBM 7094, CDC 1604, CDC 3600

Third Generation Period (1964-1971):-

Computers of this period could be used simultaneously. This became an important basis for the third generation of synchronized chip development, technical efforts were made to reduce the size of the computer.

As a result, due to IC construction on the Silicon Chip, they were used in Computer! As a result, it was possible to produce the smallest computer size ever.

Their speed ranged from micro seconds to nano seconds, which was possible through a small scale integrated circuit. High level language (Fortron Second for Fourth, Cobole, Pascal PL / 1, Basic, ALGOL-68 etc.). Used during this generation.

The main features of Third Generation are as follows:

    1. IC used
    2. More reliable
    3. Small size
    4.Creating less heat
    5. Fast
    6. Low maintenance
    7. Still expensive
    8.AC needed
    9. Reduce power consumption
   10.High level language support

Some computers of this generation ex: -IBM-360, PDP (Personal Data Processor), IBM-370/168, TDC-316 etc.
